Mother's Day Specials and Freebies
By: Susan Skolnick | March 23, 2020>
Most countries around the globe recognize Mother’s Day, but the dates and purposes may vary. In America, Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday of May, and the goal is simple: to honor the household or family matriarch. In many cases, this includes store-bought or sent flowers, pastries, and trips to local eateries to give good old mom a break from the kitchen and other family duties. Of course, Mother’s Day gifts, good-quality restaurant meals, brunches, and memorable outings aren’t usually cheap in this day and age unless you plan well in advance. Fortunately, there are already some Mothers Day specials and freebies on the horizon for 2020 to help you spoil your mom while controlling your budget.
What Are the Best Deals and Specials for Mother’s Day?
The best deals for your mom or your favorite matriarch should always come from the heart. When it’s heartfelt, a hand-picked bundle of wildflowers from the side of the highway can mean the world to a mother. But a little extra effort (and monetary value) is always lovely too, especially from the older kids or significant adults in her life. Whether opting for a nice giftcard she can use at her favorite store or a cashmere sweater you picked out just for her, plenty of Mothers Day sales and deals make it easy to treat mom on or around her special day.
When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, events and activities are always memorable options when health and finances allow. Otherwise, favorite stores and websites like Anthropologie, Amazon, Etsy, Target, and Nordstrom have some of the best Mother’s Day gifts around from year-to-year. Remember: you don’t have to pay full price for an item or surprise to make it special. Finder lists some of the sweetest and most affordable gifts available right online so you can order your gifts from home or the office. Everything from a beautiful hair tie bracelet to a new fitness tracker can be found at a steal. And if you’re not sure what to choose or mom happens to be especially hard to shop for, consider a gift card and let her make her own choice.
The Most Popular Deals and Freebies for Mothers Day
Brunches, entrees, and dining cards, oh my! If you’re looking to give your mom a delicious treat, stop by one (or all) of the following places and make sure she gets the royal treatment. Just be sure to call the local businesses first to make sure they’re open and honoring the offer in your area. If not, perhaps they’ll offer a raincheck on the Mother’s Day freebies for a future visit.
Boston Market– Boston Market doesn’t offer a great deal or even an entrée for mom, usually. But it does offer a discount coupon on the website for those who purchase a family meal. If you really want to treat mom, get her a giftcard for her special day or a future visit and let her decide what’s for dinner.
Fogo de Chao– Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouse treats moms like the queens they are on Mother’s Day. Moms who opt to dine in their establishment on their special day are offered a free dining card that can be redeemed the next day, Tuesday, May 12, or up to a month after Mothers Day. The dining cards cover either a Full Churrasco Lunch, a Full Churrasco dinner, or a Sunday Brunch. Bring multiple moms to treat them all to free dining cards for a future entrée or brunch.
Hooters – Hooters offers mom a free entrée on Mother’s Day. The list of available entrees will be listed on the website closer to the holiday. The free meals apply to those dining in.
Olive Garden – Unfortunately, Olive Garden doesn’t offer free entrees for Mother’s Day. But they can help you surprise mom with a free $10 bonus card with every $50 gift card purchase.
Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse – Treat mom to an entrée over Mother’s Day weekend at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse to get a free $25 gift card for mom. It can be used on a future purchase through June.
Shoney – If you’re planning to grab a bite at Shoney’s anyway, be sure to take mom along to score her a free slice of strawberry pie. This sweet deal requires an entrée or bar purchase.
TCBY – “The Country’s Best Yogurt” always celebrates mom by offering six ounces of frozen yogurt for free in either a cup or a cone. Of course, you’re welcome to treat her to more, but those first six ounces of frozen yogurt are free without a required purchase. Just be sure to check your local TCBY to make sure they’re honoring this freebie in your area.
Tim Hortons – Tim Hortons locations across the U.S. debuted a special Mother’s Day freebie in 2019 and they’ll probably repeat it in 2020. Call your local Timmy’s first to be sure, but the free 52-ounce “Mom-sized” ice coffee is worth the minimal effort. Free Mother’s Day coffees are first-come, first-served and only while supplies last. So, get there early.
Weinerschnitzel – Moms are welcome to stop in on their special day to get a free Chili Dog meal. This free meal includes one of the restaurant’s famous chili dogs, small fries, and a small fountain beverage.
Deals That Are Available in 2020
Sure, mom has to eat. But not all deals involve a Mother’s Day brunch or an edible treat. Still, moms deserve to be spoiled and appreciated on Mothers Day. And Mother’s Day specials and deals help make that possible, especially for those who have limited budgets. Even if you’ve planned and saved for the day, the right deal can make a world of difference in the type of surprise you can give to your favorite matriarch or just how much you can treat mom.
Flower and Gift Basket Deals
If flowers or gift baskets are among your plans, companies such as FTD Flowers, Teleflora, and 1-800-Flowers have special Mother’s Day sales, promotions, and sometimes even offer first-time customers discount codes to apply to their orders. Combining a percentage off code with free or reduced shipping can transform a simple sentiment into an unforgettable memory.
Technology Deals for Mother’s Day
If mom is in need of a new smartphone, tablet, or communication plan, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and other tech leaders will have exclusive sales, deals, and surprises in store for Mother’s Day weekend. Payment plans, special financing, and active promo codes will help you find the right gift for your budget. Check out techbargains to see some of the best annual Mother’s Day tech deals and save hundreds on new gear or an upgrade to your mom’s digital life.
Popular Retail Deals
Pay attention to May sales and deals at popular stores like Macy’s, JCPenney, and Kohls. They always have impressive holiday sales, especially for mom’s special day. And since they also provide coupons and promo codes (Kohls allows four coupons per order online), good shoppers can find wonderful deals. Of course, if an adventure is more of mom’s style, consider taking her to a local or favorite National Park.
Outdoor Deals for Mother’s Day
National Park Week begins on April 18, so free admission to all parks occurs a few weeks before Mother’s Day. But the early adventure can still be worth it. Pack a picnic lunch, take plenty of pictures with mom, and let her commune with nature to her heart’s content. Remember, many parks are free year-round, so either check with or surprise mom as necessary to save time and money while still sweeping her off her feet for at least a day. The right pre-planning can help create memories of a lifetime.
